… Stylish Thinking and Planning

by Deirdre Hynes in

Home Office… hmm? It's your home - it's an office…. but don't the lines sort of blur? Isn't that always the problem - if it's your office then it's not really your home, and if it's your home then shouldn't you be doing things that aren't office related?!?! So I'd rather call these spots in our houses that we do all our jobs in 'thinking', 'planning', 'dreaming' or 'doing' spaces! Everyone needs a little nook that they can deal with the necessities of life from but that also gives you a little place that you can just sit and plan from. Somewhere the 'big-ideas' get turned into 'to-do' lists… where the magic happens! And sure while we're there, they might as well be good looking spots that you're just not going to want to leave. The joy of them being 'at-home' means that you don't have to subscribe to office-chic staples like carpet-burn tiles, synthetic leatherette seats and styrofoam cubicles. Oh no, how about some warm leather, sheepskin, mid-century details, acrylic organisers, free-walls for pinning, room for flowers and favourite books! In particular I love a great chair to swing around in - especially if it's a reupholstered classic from the fifties, or a Hans Wegner delight. Here's some of my favourites...

… Jumping

by Deirdre Hynes in

Sometimes you just have to jump!

Once upon a time there was a little thought. It started as an itch in the back of my mind… that part of my mind that used to be my 'whole' mind - the creative, design-loving, curious, appreciating, fun loving, information seeking, day-dreaming and dream-doing' part of my mind. The part of my mind that went into semi-hibernation through the bundle of joy hugging, sleepless night surviving, napping baby walking, cheesy-egg making, lego tidying, play dough car moulding, teddy-bear picnicking, toddler-adoring past eighteen months!

And it was a persistent little thought. A "hello… hello… HELLO?!?!?!" CAN YOU HEAR ME???" kind of thought. It thought about things like drinks other than sweet sugary tea and black coffee. It thought about exercise other than pushing a buggy, running up and down stairs, and bench-pressing small people who want to be airplanes. It thought about faraway places with sandy beaches* and wind-rocked hammocks (admittedly my 'mama head' thought of those things on a pretty regular basis too). It thought about pretty things. It thought about sensational spaces. It thought about award winning movies and 'lose yourself in me' books. It thought about inspirational people doing inspirational things. It thought about life-changing, life-bettering things. It started interrupting me while I was going about my day.

So, my very full head, with all these thoughts needs a home - and here it is. Without actually thinking too hard - (procrastination really isn't an option once you have a small person) we jumped. Me and my thought. And here we are, because sometimes you just have to take the first leap!
